Followers of the charity will know that Catrin has a liking for extreme outdoor swimming events.
This year Catrin ventured out of British waters and jetted off to New York to do The Governors Island Swim – a 2 mile event in the Hudson river. She also did a number of other swimming challenges including a repeat of the Great Welsh Swim (3.8k sea swim) and the Great London Swim (1 mile).
Unlike an indoor swimming pool, a stretch of open water is a wild and uncontrolled environment, which adds markedly to the challenge.
“I’ve completely got the open swimming bug. While swimming up and down a 25m pool can be boring outdoor swimming can be incredibly exciting and there’s often the added sense of battling with, and overcoming the elements.”
