Our recent evaluation showed great benefits and impact of our work young people participating, including:
• 88% reported improved study skills
• 80% reported improved communication
• 92% gained wider understanding of university pathways
• 91% felt the project enabled them to pursue STEM careers
Our programme also aligns strongly with the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015 and contributes to long-term community benefits: improved skills, increased confidence, wider role-model networks and reduced cycles of exclusion. Evidence shows that persistent structural barriers in Wales, with STEM professions remaining heavily skewed against working-class and disadvantaged entrants (Social Mobility Commission 2016 / Sutton Trust 2025). Work experience is rare despite high demand and enthusiasm: Our 2024 evaluation showed almost three-quarters of young people needed help sourcing STEM work-experience opportunities. The Mullany Fund operates at the intersection of a strong network of schools and longstanding relations with employers. We are actively seeking to build and ehnance our employer network. - Assistive Technologies Innovation Centre (ATIC), UWTSD – supporting innovation-focused mentoring and placements
- Swansea University Nursing, Midwifery and Medicine – supporting healthcare pathways
- Ospreys in the Community – helping reach young people outside traditional academic routes
